BLACK & WHITE

I still have a soft spot for black and white photography. My first developing and printing was done at school in 1969. I built my own darkroom in the late 70’s, finally letting the dust settle on the enlarger some twenty five years later.

I now convert my images to black and white on my ‘desktop darkroom’ and I can honestly say, I do not miss the smell of ‘fixer’ or the anticipated wait for the latent image to intensify, only to see that it needs more work! Working in the darkroom was very anti-social, smelly and in some cases cold. Re-appearing into the real world was a shock to the eye-sight – not healthy.

Today, the techniques used in my darkroom (and more) can be done in comfort, whilst undertaking a conversation!
